When's it going to be too late?

It's been really weird, but lately I've been becoming more and more earth conscious. When I was a teenager I had a bad attitude like, "It's too late." or "What can I do?" The result was I was lazy about the little things to help the environment and I could care less about politcal issues and the environment. The truth is I never thought that the drastic effects of abusing the earth would be seen in my lifetime. The truth is the earth is hurting.
First of all, if you haven't seen "Inconvenient Truth" you need to, the evidence is undeniable. There are also several other documentaries or studies on animals that show global warming's results. I saw a documentary on penguins in Antartica and the sad thing was at the end a whole batch of young died because their home on the ice melted away before they developed swimming feathers; the surviving older penguins then had to find a new nesting ground next year.
The interesting thing is that there is all this evidence and people, especially governments say it's not a problem. One thing that is driving me nuts in Canadian politics is that the PC government is taking good environmental initiatives, especially to clean up the crap from many years of liberal laziness, but they are being criticized for not doing enough. They could do more, but it takes time.
The question I have for other governments especially our neighbors to the south is when is it going to be late?

Basketball: The Underappreciated Younger Brother

Sorry I haven't updated my blog in awhile. Here's a rant on TV:
This week is a good week to be a basketball fan and have a satellite dish. Unfortunately, this has also shown the bias of Canadian sports broadcasters to hockey over basketball. You see, this week the NHL is on all-star break, and without games to broadcast Sportsnet and TSN suddenly are friends again with Basketball; broadcasting several games this week as opposed to maybe the one on average that they do broadcast. Don't get me wrong I like hockey, I watched the All-Star skills competition tonight, but it would be nice to see half the coverage of hockey for basketball. I guess I got my hopes up when the NHL lock-out was on; there was a basketball game on everynight, often several games. I loved it, but deep down inside I knew it couldn't last. Well, the lockout ended and it happened; hockey came back on TV with a vengence. Now all the Canadian Sportsnetworks hump hockey oozing it every second they can, and basketball has taken the backseat. I don't know if organizations like TSN know this, but basketball is booming, hockey is in decline. The NBA's current 2 time MVP is a Canadian!! The winner is TheScore sportsnetwork, they have picked up alot of the basketball slack broadcasting lots of games and showing basketball themed shows.
I just wish I had something like NBA Courtside pass, featuring all broadcasted NBA games, but that is only available from Direct TV, which is only available in the States. I really shouldn't complain I still get to see a lot of games.

You're my hero....

Hey sports fans! I found some wonderful pictures of star athletes at a website called "Drunk Athletes". Don't these millionaires have bars in their mansions? Are they stupid enough to get wasted at a public bar and then let someone take their picture? Yep, they sure are.

A Must See Movie

Below is a trailer for the Al Gore movie,"An Inconvenient Truth". I watched it this morning and if you are planning on living on earth the next 30-50 years or planning on having children live here you might want to check it out. The movie is not as goofy as the trailer below.

Prayers for 2007

A new year is upon us; time for reflection on the past, and hope for the future. 2006 had its great times and it had its low times; so as I look to the year ahead I want to offer prayers for the upcoming year.

Prayers for 2007:

- Love and Peace. We live in a world of conflict; it's one of the downfalls of sin. I'm sure since the beginning of New Year's reflections, there has been hope for peace. We turn on the news daily to violent conflict. But I pray for love and peace not only abroad, but local. I've seen conflict in my community (BH drug treatment center), I've seen it in church, and I've seen it in relationships(my own and others) In my mind there is nothing more beautiful than people living in peace.

- Guidance Everybody has the same questions about life: What's my purpose? Why am I here? What should I do with my life? These questions, as I am discovering, stick with us throughout our life. The one thing I know is that these questions are better answered within the will of God, so I try to seek His answers to these questions.

- Good Health Everyear the media focuses on the famous people who have died in the past year. Most if not all of us either knew someone who died or someone who was close to someone who died. We are always reminded of our mortality and need to cherish our times with those we care about.

- Those afar Prayers for family and friends we don't see as often as we would like; whether they are overseas, living up north, living way down south, living on the coast, working out of the province, or serving God in countries abroad; we spread out around this small world.

- The youth The struggles they face daily: rampant drug and alcohol abuse, the filth of the media, sexual purity, and finding relevance in their faith in a world that tells them it is worthless.

- humility Christians need humility. The power to admit their faults and seek reconciliation. The power to serve people rather than use them for their own glory. The power to rejoice in the sucess of others rather than feel threatened and in competition with them. The power to have churches that are all about Christ rather than an image or the people in charge of them. The power to treat others not as equal, but better; whether they are children, youth, adults, or seniors; and no matter what color, nationality, status, or belief.

Here's to the memories of 2006, and the hopes of 2007
